At Lazarus House Initiative, Inc., our vision is to see every Texan freely walking in their God-given dignity, living in a home they can afford, and flourishing in a community where poverty is replaced by hope.
Bell and Ellis County — LHI's Self-Sufficiency Program for families with very low- to moderately-low incomes — participants receive:
• case management
• financial literacy
• life-skills training
• rent assistance
• vocational rehabilitation, referral, and/or training
• work search training
• help to break out of poverty into stable, affordable homes
Brazoria and Dallas County — LHI's Self-Sufficiency Program for persons with disabilities living in households with very-low to moderately-low incomes — participants receive:
• accessible housing support
• case management
• financial literacy
• life-skills training
• rent assistance
• vocational rehabilitation, referral, and/or training
• empowerment to move beyond disabilities toward self-sufficiency
LHI's self-sufficiency programs serve households with incomes up to 80% of Area Median Family Income (AMFI) — from extremely low income (at or below 30% of AMFI) and very low income (at or below 50% of AMFI) to low income (at or below 80% of AMFI) — including homeless individuals.
Since our founding in 2001 and relaunch in 2016, Lazarus House Initiative, Inc. has:
provided homelessness prevention and intervention as well as disaster relief to 325 Texas families.
fostered affordable housing and self-sufficiency for a diverse group of 245 Texans.
From providing emergency shelter, emergency financial assistance, security deposits for housing and utilities.
to providing a safe haven for victims of domestic violence (72), students with learning disabilities and students performing below grade level (146).
to providing breakfast, lunch, snacks, school supplies, and Christmas gifts to students (146) living in homeless and low-income families,
to providing encouragement, socks, toiletries, slippers, gowns, stocking caps, and love to senior citizens in the nursing home (125).
We are proud of the impact we have made. But there is still much work to be done, and we are committed to continuing our efforts.
